Need chem help.drawing figures?
2 phenyl 4 bromopentane
Answer:
Start by drawing pentane, you know the one with 5 carbon atoms surrounded by hydrogens.
Then count up to the fourth carbon from either end, replace one of the hydrogen with bromine (Br).
Then count from the same side as above to the second carbon, and replace another hydrogen with a benzene ring (hexagon with alternating double bonds)
Go to www.chemfinder.com. You may have to register (it's free), but totally worth it. They have structures already drawn for you.
If they dont' have it, draw pentane which has 5 carbons. Number the carbons. Draw a phenyl group (6 carbon aromatic ring) off the second carbon and a bromide off the 4th.
Yes.
On yahoo, i can only really provide a description and you'll have to draw from there:
1) draw a chain of 5 carbons long (the pentane)
2) label the 5 carbons from 1 to 5 starting at one end and working your way down the chain
3) on carbon #2, draw a line connecting to one of the carbons on a benzene ring (benzene ring = 6 carbon ring that is shaped like a hexagon, with double bonds between every other atom..ie between carbon 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6)
4) on carbon #4, draw a line connected to a bromine atom
as mentioned, if you go to www.chemfinder.com and sign up, you can get the structure shown to you
