Need help please! chemical name & formula?
2) If you spilled some BASE while your kitchen, what substance could you use to stop its action? ( Give its common name).
Answer:
In either place, you could use acetic acid, HC2H3O2. In the lab, you could use 100% aceticacid. In the home, you could use vinegar, which is a 5% solution of acetic acid in water.
In the lab, however, there might be regulations of the school, company, or government about what you can/must use.
H2o. water. I think so because if you drop base from the kitchen or in the lab we use water to stop the action. that's all.
Has to be H2O, water. You can only clean up a base if you use water.
WATER or H2O
Base is just like the opposite of an acid.
Formula: CH3COOH
Common Name: Acetic Acid
I see no reason why that would not work. I don't think the answer is Water because you need an acid to counteract the Base, combining with it and forming water and some kind of salt.
Any acid should do in any case... however, to prevent the scarring of your countertops, I would consider some relatively weak acids. Vinegar is probably best... as was noted by others, but I have noted that Coca-Cola or Pepsi does the trick.
Enjoy.
