How can i find out which all compouds show tautomerism from their structures?
Answer:
For a compound to show tautomerism, >C=O (carbonyl group) should be present and the carbon atom of this carbonyl group should be attatched to a saturated carbon atom containing alpha hydrogen atom. This is the keto form.
In the enol form, C-OH group is present and the carbon atom
is attatched to another carbon atom via double bond.
I hope this helps.
Can you pick me up now ////
it is keto-enol form that shows tautomerism.as the electron in the keto form rotate very easily. you can refer books like o.p.tandon
compounds having alpha hydrogen and containing ( >c=o ) carbonyl group with unsaturation nature .
is it cleared now?
its a reaction that involves the exchange of a hydrogen atom, between 2 other atoms in the same molecule,... and in both cases, forms a covalent bond.
Tautomerism occurrs in glucose, with open forms and closed forms,.... and keto tautomerism also occurrs in many aldehydes and ketones.
Enol forms occurr in phenols...
very difficult
U can find out by checking of there's an ACIDIC alpha hydrogen with respect to the carbonyl group(>c=o).
remember only acidic alpha hydrogen atoms can portray tautomerism.
