Balanced reaction. oxidation reduction?
2H2SO4 + 2KMnO4 + K2SO3 --> 2MnSO4 + 6K2SO4 + 3H20
I supposed the correct answer was Manganese (Mn) in MnSo4.
because Mn^+6 --> Mn^+1
But the correct according to my textbook: Manganese(Mn) in KMnO4 . isnt that wrong?
Answer:
Balancing Oxidation Reduction Reactions.
In order to balance a REDOX equation one must balance not only the atoms of each element represented. MRX
Mn goes from +7 to +2
S in K2SO3 goes from +4 to + 6
The reduced compound must stay in the left side of the reaction... So the reduced is Mn that change its oxidation number from +7 in KMnO4 to +2 in MnSO4..
