Both Na & P are present in the same period but their oxides are different in nature.why?

Answer:
Even though both the element Na & P are in the same period, they belong to group I and group 15 respectively.Hence, both elements will possess different chemical properties due to different electron configuration( number of valence electrons(s)).In this case,
the oxide of sodium is basic while oxide of phosphorous has acidic properties.
