D & f-block elements are called transition elements???
Answer:
The word transition means transition of electron from lower energy orbitals (t2g/eg of d/f orbital) to higher energy orbitals (t2g/eg of d/f orbital) due to the absorption of light. Since depending on the no. of electrons in d/f orbital, the absorption wavelength will vary, which leads to specific colors on those molecules corresponding to the wavelength not absobed. Hence, most of the molecules formed out of d/f block elements are colored.
almost.
just the d-block ones
the other ones are rare earth (also called lanthanides) and actinoids.
