Is sodium nitrite used in bombs, explosives, or rocket propelents to any extent?

A teacher at my college had this on a test. I answered no and got it wrong. I researched it and found that sodium nitrate is used in bombs, explosives, and rocket propelents, but i found nothing about sodium nitrite being used in anything even similar.

Answer:
Soduim Nitrite, NaNO2, is a preservative in food. Sodium NitrAte, NaNO3, is indeed an explosive. The difference is the extra Oxygen, which makes NaNO3 much more unstable than NaNO2, and thus much more explosive.
Thats a sensitive question. I am not answering this.
yes it is . if you know about Kansas , terry mic fay
I have never heard of sodium nitrite being used for that purpose. I do however, know that ammonia nitrate and potassium nitrate are used. I should note that these are all now controlled chemicals and note easy to get ahold of for obvious reasons.
Potassium nitrate is commonly used. Sodium nitrate is in the same family of chemicals.
The nitrate packs more oxygen for oxidation than does the nitrite. Nitrites are used in meat preservation because it keeps food form changing color with storage and destroys meat-spoiling organisms.
Sodium nitrite can't be used in bombs, mostly KI and Sodium nitrate and and Lithium(mostly in atomic bombs for reducing speed of neutrons to be combined with T.N.T) are used.
