How do you find the concentration in ppm?
A water sample contains 0.00505g of Arsenic in 12.0L. What is the arsenic concentration in parts per million?
Answer:
ppm = mg / L
0.00505 g = 5.05 mg
5.05 mg / 12 L = 0.421 ppm
ppm has no measurement unit, it is just a number, just like %.
therefore the amounts u divide should be in the same unit. since 12L water are 12kg, ot 12 000g
just divide the 0.00whatever by 12 000 and then multiply by 1 000 000.
EDIT: Dr.A, this is true for water ONLY. don“t tell me that 5.05mg in 12L Hg are also 0.42 ppm
