What is the solvent in shoe polish?

The "cream" shoe polish has hardened in one of theose little flat cans the polish comes in. How can I soften it?

Answer:
Most shoe polishes are manufactured with
STODDARD SOLVENT, commonly known as Mineral Spirits.

It is a petroleum distilate commonly used as a paint thinner.

Used by many artists as an alternative to turpentine (much less flammable and less toxic). You should be able to purchase it at a paint store.
