Hmmm, is there a negative order of reaction?

in the experiment we performed, tiosulfate and HCl, when i was computing for the the order of reaction of HCl, one of our data gave a negative order of reaction with respect to H+...
is it possible or just an error in the datum?

Answer:
It is indeed possible. It's not seen very often - but it is possible.
Probably an error in data. If you have a negative order of reaction, it means that the reaction to create a product creates one that speeds up the rate of reaction to create it. CHAIN REACTION.
negative reaction order would mean that as you increase the concentration of reactant, the reaction rate goes down. normally this would not be possible but with H+ it could be that the reaction rate actually depends on the concentration of OH- (as you increase [H+], [OH-] goes down). however if its just one data point it's probably a mistake with your calculation or preparation of the solutions.
