Depends on the activity, but lets use running as the activity.
1 calorie about 1 minute
100 calories about 30 minutes
1000 calories about 3 hours of steady constant running.
I don't believe you can burn 5000 calories in a day, but that would have to be constant running, swimming, or something vigorous all day long.
