How do I convert from Molarity to Molality?

Answer:
Molarity = # of moles of solute/1 L of solution
Molality = # of moles of solute/1 kg of solvent

Usually in order to covert from molarity to molality, the density of the solution is given. And you can work from there.

For eg. 0.125M of H2SO4 (density = 1.8g/ml)

Assume that we have 1L of solution,

Weight of solution = 1000ml * 1.8g/ml = 1800g
Weight of solute = 0.125 * 98 = 12.25g
Weight of solvent = weight of solution - weight of solute
= 1800 - 12.25 g = 1787.75 g

Molality = 0.125mol/1.78775 kg = 0.0699m
divide molarity by density in Kg/L and you get molality.
