What temperature scale should be used if we wish to express Charles's Law as a simple direct proportionality?
celsius
kelvin
it makes no difference
Answer:
Kelvin. Use an absolute temperature scale! Charles' Law states that the ratio of volumes is equal to the ratio of temperatures at constant pressure. But if you use a relative temperature scale (Celcius for example) instead of Kelvin, you'll get the wrong answer.
You can demonstrate this to yourself easily. Consider the two temperatures 25 C and 0 C. In Kelvin, they are 298.15 K and 273.15 K. Certainly the ratio of 298.15 / 273.15 is different than 25 / 0 !
According to S.I. system temp. is expressed on kelvin(K) scale and the calculations are also done by converting the temp. to kelvin if it is not. otherwise ur calculation get wrong.
Kelvin (Absolute Temperature = °C + 273).
(Also Rankine, which is the Fahrenheit equivalent of Absolute temperature = °F + 460).
