Order each of the following sets of five atoms and ions according to increasing size.
(1 = smallest, 5= largest)

V3+
Br-
Ca2+
Ti2+
Sr2+

and

S2-
Sc3+
Ca2+
Ge4+
K+

Any explanation would me helpful! Thanks. =)

Answer:
V+3 = 1
Ti+2 = 2
Ca+2 = 3
Sr+2 = 4
Br-1 = 5

and

Ge+4 = 1
Sc+3 = 2
Ca+2 = 3
K+1 = 4

As you have more + charge the ion gets smaller, the more - charge the ion gets larger. As the atom moves down on the periodic table it gets bigger, and in general, as it move to the right it gets smaller in size relative to the transition metals from the alkali and alkali earth metals.
