Which solvent is most suitable for recrystallizing acetanilide? Is it water, methanol or hexane? Why?



Answer:
Water is the best solvent for recrystallization of acetanilide.
1 gm dissolves in 20 ml of boiling water.
At room temperature ,it is as good as insoluble in water 1 gm in 185 ml water
1 gm dissolves in 3ml of methanol
It is insluble in hexane.
For Recrystallisation best solvent for product is , the product should be rather insoluble in cold but good soluble in hot solvent...
