What are the factors which cause damage in polyethylene which use in coating?
Answer:
Molecular weight and branching are the big problems. This about polyethylene as a mass of cooked spaghetti. Your job being to make a conformal film with the spaghetti. As you spread it out there are going to be spots where it bunches up (branching). And spot where shorter pieces of spaghetti leave gaps (chain length). Both of these issues create physical fissures in the film. These imperfections are where damage propagates.
One of the methods developed is an improved catalysis process. Which makes a more consistent polymer, called linear low density polyethylene (LLPE).
