What is hoogoven?

Answer:
The hoogoven is a giant industrial coke/Iron smelting furnace whose purpose is to transform iron ore to iron and at the same time use the coke as the fuel.

First the Coke is oxidized to carbon dioxide:

C(s) + O2(g) --> CO2(g) 1200ºC

then the CO2(g) is reacted with the coke to form CO(g)

C(s) + CO2(g) --> 2CO(g) 2200ºC

then finally the CO(g) is reacted with the iron ore

Fe2O3(l) + 3CO(g) --> 3CO2(g) + 2Fe(l) >2000ºC
hoogoven an installation is in which iron ore and are mixed and as such strongly hot that liquid arise in which a certain percentage carbon has been solved, which can be drawn off vervolgens.
