What is alchemy and can a person be a modren day alchemist?
Answer:
Hilarious. Just hilarious.
Alchemy is an age old process dating back to the Middle Ages. The only alchemy that I am familiar with is that of chemistry. In chemistry, alchemy is simply the changing of one element to another. For instance, one famous experiment in alchemy involves the changing of lead into gold. There are still thousands of alchemists working, but not like the television show.
Yes there are modern day alchemists. It's an occult science. You can read more about this at your local metaphysical bookstore.
The advantage today is that we have a vastly greater understanding of chemistry and physics. There are still people who call themselves alchemists, but if you're interested, you'd probably find real chemistry fascinating. Give it a try!
there's really no point.
Alchemists were concerned primarily with turning one element into another chemically - and that cannot be done. It is impossible.
The only way to turn one element into another is by nuclear means - and the cost of turning an element into - let's say gold or platinum, isn't worth the cost of operating the instrument to do so.
Alchemists also wanted to find a universal solvent - well we have one - it's called water
They also are concered with finding the "elixir" for life. Good luck with that one. Besides, aren't there too many people on this planet already - so extending a person's life or making them live forever may not be beneficial to the planet that we live on.
Alchemy is an imaginary system of chemistry (and to some extent, other things including psychology). It is now generally classified as magic alongside astrology, numerology and predicting the future by examination of the liver of sacrificed animals.
yeah they are called chemist.
