What is the pH of the reaction compound of an alkaline battery and why does the battery work?

Answer:
it works based on a redox reaction between MnO2 and Zn powder, which induces a flow of electrons, a.k.a. electricity.
since both ZnOH, MnO2 and especially KOH (used as an electrolyte) are quite basic, it will have quite an alkaline reaction.
