How can I induce or find out the properties of substances based upon their original elements and, in addition, how can I find out the speed in which the atoms and molecules of different substances move?

Here are some general properties of elements.
from left to right on the periodic table:

Atomic Radius Decreases
Ionization Energy Increases
Electronegativity Increases

Moving Top to Bottom

Atomic Radius Increases
Ionization Energy Decreases
Electronegativity Decreases

to find out the speed, you need this formula:

speed= distance travelled/time
Regarding speed, you must know the Kelvin temperature. From this you calculate average kinetic energy. Knowing the average KE, you calculate the molecular speed, called the root mean square speed.
