How to make sodium acetate?

i heard that u can make it with vingar and baking soda. but how do i make it and how do i make it turn into hot ice.

Answer:
Your reaction is:

CH3COOH(aq) + NaHCO3(s) --> NaO2CCH3(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)

assuming that you are stating with 3% vinegar (3 g acetic acid/100ml solution) and you want to make 100 g of NaAc

then you will need to use the follow

CH3COOH - 60.05 g/mole
NaHCO3 - 84.007 g/mole
NaAc - 82.03 g/mole

3% acetic acid = 0.05 moles/100 ml

100 g NaAc ~ 1.2 mole

so you will need to start with

1.2 mole = xml (0.05 mole/100ml) ==> 2.4 liters of vinegar

this will require about 101 g of NaHCO3

That is a HUGE volume of water to get rid of for 100 grams of sodium acetate! You'd be better off buying it from eBay. Here's a link.

from there it's easy to make the stuff. Just dissolve as much as you can in hot water and let it cool. All you need to make the crystallization happen is a nucleation site - like your finger, and grain of dirt, hair - anything really!
i saw that on myspace too!
