Quantitative Inorganic Analysis Questions...?

-What is the effect of prolonged digestion?
-Why is filtration of a gelatinous precipitate done while the solution is still hot?
-Why should you use an ashless filter paper?

Answer:
with prolonged digestion, you could statrt breaking down your target compound

filtration of the ppt is done while still hot to allow the impurities to filter out. when the compound solidifies, anything "caught" in the ppt is stuck and unfilterable

ashless filter paper improves the data you get from weighing because ashless filter paper will not break off into fibers in your ppt, thus making any wieghing inaccurate
Not sure about the first one, but I would guess it causes chemical decomposition of the sought compound (salt)

Hot filtration: the viscosity of the slurry is relatively low and filtration is easier than when it's cold.

Ashless f.p. - so that you don't get a residue from the ash contained in the paper when igniting the paper to obtain a salt you collected on the paper
