How much will a 20 ounce of pop cost in the year 2057?
Answer:
In 2057 there will be no "Pop". Not to be negative but Pop is an unecessary drink, really.
We will be fortunate to even have clean water in 2057.
I think the way this world is going, we will all be walking, struggling to find food, and it may be like very early times: I mean a LONG time ago. That is if we are all still here and haven't killed each other with wars, pollution and wrecked the whole planet.
So there is no need to worry about the future cost of "Pop".
Dig a well, learn how to grow vegetables, and basic skills for living.
Sugar may have even disappeared from our diet, so "Pop", will not be able to be made.
Who knows? It may even be a whole lot better going "backwards". "Forwards" has not done a lot!!
It would also be nice to think we may all even help one another, when the times get tougher; but with all the crime we now have, this may be impossible.
Stay happy, positive and keep your spiritual life very strong.
This way you can cope with anything.
Well there is no way to no exactly, but assuming that the economy stays relatively stable, lets say there is an inflation rate of 3%. Economists hope for a rate of about 2%, but looking that far our, lets be a little cautious and bump it up to 3%.
The math to figure this out is then:
1.25 * (1.03)^50 = $5.80
Being optimistic at 2% is:
1.25 * (1.02)^50 = $3.40
So a good guess is a soda will cost about between 4 and 6 bucks. This could of course be way wrong as so many things could change, including costs of all the different materials that make soda (from the sugar to the plastic of the bottle), plus if soda becomes easier or harder to make for any reason.
Can't seem to find historical prices for soda. Do some google searches, you might have more luck than me.
To answer part of your question about how much did pop cost 50 years ago. In 1963 pop cost 12 cents. 2 cents was for the deposit on the glass bottle. I remember stopping at the corner store after school to buy it. If you extend that rate of inflation out 50 years a pop will cost about $12.50 plus deposit.
Someone just got done watching the Discovery Channel didn't they?
It would depend on the rate of inflation (lets use 2.5%).
To determine the future cost you would have to take the price now, times the rate of inflation to the power of the number of years (50).
you have to take it to the power, rather than simply multiplying to account for the compounding changes to the cost of the soda pop.
1.29 *1.025 power of 50.
$4.43
Since everything else adjusts for inflation equally (ideally) it would be no different that spending 1.29 today, if wages increase at a matched pace with inflation.
