Why do we study consumption and the saving functions together?

Answer:
Because basically you can do two things with your income, you can eat it (consumption) or you can save it.

Peace
If you know one, you know the other. They have to be consistent. If you know the consumption function then the savings function is income minus the consumption function. If you know the savings function, then the consumption function is income minus the savings function.
