Why do some people think Economics is a useless major?

I recently read an article about the most lucrative college degrees, and Economics was listed as one of the highest-paying majors with an average salary of around $48,000. Economics majors according to this article made more than Business Management and even Accounting majors. Is this article realistic or what? Do economics majors really have a hard time getting good positions after graduation?

Answer:
I was doing bachelors in Economics and due to some of my past documents I unfortunately couldn't complete it. BUT economics is one of the best degree all around, its highly paid and if u r gifted with extra skills and knowledge and have good ability of the application of different tasks accordingly, then I believe Major in economics is something really worth. Its my dream to do masters in Economics and lets see... one day i will do it. after all Life is too long being short. :)
I have a degree in Economics and I got a job 1 month after I graduated with a very prestigious company. It's one of the best majors to take if you plan on getting a PHD because it is the most universal degree in the business college, but it is NOT easy!

I have to say the article was probably written by an accountant! :o)
One of my friends is going for such a major for just that reason. That and econ is extremely easy and even a little fun.

I'm just glad the bulk of my income doesn't come from working a job, jobs suck! It's all about owning assets, probably something you'll learn in econ.
why i think its a useless major is that its all theory. prove me wrong, what can i use it for. theres some uses for it as a business manager, only certain parts. the foundation principals of economics well i disagree with them. can economics prove why the ipod was so successful. nope it cant.
