My question is very straight forward and simple. How can we give Americans livable wages.?

Tell bush to cut spendings on warfare, stop spending on shuttle flights just to learn how female hormones react in space, maybe tell him also to quit his job. Hopefully, you americans will get what you is due you.
Hopefully we'll get a change in 2008 and get a president that actually cares for the American people instead of American corperations.
The value of the US dollar is decreasing relative to the euro and other currencies. This will have a corrective effect, stimulating US exports and domestic industries. The economy will get stronger and Americans' income will rise.
First, we need a governmental body that really cares. These people make more than the standard person. They receive free health care (I don't), free postal service (I know that I get a lot of crap from representatives and senators in the mail). they vote themselves a raise every freaking year. They receive free vacations because they take money from companies that want to influence their votes.
If Americans did not have to pay for all of their crap, then maybe our taxes would not be so high and then we could keep more of the money that we make.
Also this gas thing is getting ridiculous. I have seriously considered buying an electric car or hybrid. I don't get a raise when the gas prices rise; but how am I expected to travel to work with the price of gas like it is and it is going to continue to rise.
i think one possible way is to solve the unexpected population growth, massive illegal adult trek. they might say that they help to build the econ, but no one asked them for help or to allow themselves to be used and abused by unscrupulous employers on farm and in factories etc..,
in many cases the culprits are sometimes even their own people who have been here for years legally, or who paid their dues to become legal, and want them to do the same.
this might sound harsh but it's true. one should realize however that in the eyes of the illegal masses they are not being abused by the low wages they get, because usually wherever they are coming from they are used to living on far less.
never the less collectively they put a strain on the US econ and also infringes on the wages of the primary and ingrafted american families. (business as usual, some also get absorbed by crime and everybody blames the systems gov.) the solution has now become very complex, things are so entwined.

I live in a state with a shortage of:
IT Workers
Construction Workers
Skilled Labor
Accountants
Nurses
. all jobs that pay this mythical "livable" wage you want.
Yet, somehow, all I hear are Americans complaining about how bad things are. The wussification of America is full speed ahead.

The problem with the livable wage is because of a change in our economy.
Technology took us by storm, very very fast. Our current economy highly treasures certain skills, people who have them are rewarded heavily.
The issue you have, is that people who do not have them are not.
It won't help people at your age, but our education system has done a crappy job in all aspects and many industries (even manufacturing) still have a heavy need for people with quant skills.
