What is the basic idea behind the SHGs for the poor? Explain in your own words.?

Answer:
I guess the basic idea behind the SHGs (Self-Help Groups) for
the poor is they solve common problems with self help and mutual help. They keep their savings in a bank, and usually the number of people in a SHG doesn't exceed 20. They are usually from the same or similar socioeconomic background. I guess they also act as a way to provide support for each other, and a way to co-operate with each other. I guess the basic idea is to foster a sense of co-operation among people who are among the poorest in society, and don't have access to your formal banking institutions.
