How can we improve our economy?
Answer:
Cut taxes immediately. Every time taxes have been cut in the history of America, tax revenue to the federal government has increased. EVERY time. When taxes are cut, people have more discretionary income and spend more, helping to make businesses more prosperous. Tax cuts also help business by reducing their tax burden and allowing businesses to invest and grow their businesses, hire more people, do more research, make better products, the list goes on.
The other side of the equation is to reduce government spending. No policital party has any claim to make there. They all spend WAY too much.

Make the tax cuts permanent - they're the reason the economy is a lot better than it was a generation ago.
2 things:
Stop trying to fix it. The market needs time to adjust to anything that changes. Politians keep changing things and never allowing markets to adjust. the economy is normally weakest when it is adjusting, so the economy is always weaker since it is always trying to adjust to stuff that been done.
Internalize costs. Companies and individuals must be made to incur the costs to society for their actions. I am speaking of externalities.
Keep the taxes low, make the tax cuts permanent and make some more. This has increased people's discretionary income and led to the increased tax revenues overal and the growth of the economy.
Also, there really isn't anything wrong with the econony right now. The media is trying to make the economy seem to be in bad shape when unemployment is at the lowest rate in many years, the trade deficit is going down due to the decrease in the value of the dollar related to the euro. The federal deficit is also decreasing while still being involved in a war.
