Yet another Econ Question(Dont hate me)?
Answer:
Not truly sure what your question is.but I would suggest your assignment is to describe the circumstances that existed in the industrial sector that necessitated labour unions (ie. unsafe working conditions, unfair treatment, unsatisfactory wages, etc.) The question goes on to encourage you to discuss the methodologies of labour unions and their effects on our current day.
For my two cents, I would like to state that labour unions were a very real necessity for the working man in the early part of the 20th century. But, like all organizations, the power had a corrupting effect, and the unions (as they exist today), are extremely dangerous for the profitability of corporations around the world. The union worker feels a certain protection and security with their membership, but if they analyzed the benefits they really receive, I believe they would see the unions for what they really are...capitalist opportunists disguised as socialist saviors. If labour unions were abolished in most of the unionized companies...the employees would enjoy higher pay and, probably, better relations with their employers. As they stand now, unions encourage a lazy workforce with an obscene sense of entitlement...
