What are the chances of farmers' markets replacing supermarkets?

Answer:
I live in a college town, where there are also hippies, health-food nuts, and a lot of older people (particularly in the winter = snowbirds). Therefore, we have many health-food stores, and several farmers' markets.

However, I do not think that they will replace supermarkets--not everyone has the $$$ to shop at the health-food places, so the supermarket is needed. Supermarkets are also quite like variety stores at this point.
None
There is no chance. Farmers markets are a novelty.
not gonna happen, but i would love it if that was all there was
Almost nil. There are a lot of supermarket chains that cater to the city folk who want farm fresh and organics. Farmers Market just isnt feasible in many city areas as there are not many farms near them, or if there are they only offer a certain selection. Where as supermarkets bring in foods from all over. I doubt that the farmers market will ever die out completely though, Seattle has a pretty neat Farmers Market in the downtown area.
I LOVE farmers' markets! But no, they couldn't replace supermarkets because they are seasonal, sadly. Well, unless you live somewhere where it's warm all year like Florida. But here in Illinois, we can't grow crops year round. Still, it's fun to look forward to in the summer. Love that sweet corn! The other seasons of the year bring other great things too. I love the variety, and having farmers' markets only in the summer just makes me value them all the more.
If we had teleportation technology (that was cheap and widespread) it would be totally do-able.
that is entirely up to you. if you concentrate your buying at farmer's markets, then supermarkets will not be getting your business. fix meals for your friends with the fresh farmer's market foods and when they ask which isle in safeway you got the salsa, you can tell them, oh, but i made it with tomatos, herbs, and garlic.
