For Communism (everyone owns everything equally) to work, everyone must be honest and hard working.

People get greedy and/or lazy.

Greedy people take more than their share.

Lazy people do less than their share of work.

Pure communism pays the lazy to be lazy by providing them their share anyway.

If you start using money and paying people for their labor, then you are converting to capitalism which rewards people for hard work and in its pure form lets the lazy starve if they can't get someone to have pity on them and give them food.
