Coin Sizes?

Why is it that a 2 pence coin is so much larger than the rest of the coins in our currency? It's worth next to nothing so shouldn't it be just a little bit larger than the 1p coins?

Thats how it works I think? The 50p is the largest of the silver coins and a £2 is larger than a £1 coin. I think that its always been like that
