State with strongest Economy?
Which State has the strongest Economy? New York maybe?
Answer:
It depends how you choose to measure the "strongest". If there is a specific reason you want to know, then that might help determine what measures you should look at.
Largest GDP? California has the largest economy by far. That has a lot to do with the fact that California has a lot more people then any other state. In 2005 they produced about twice as much as the second biggest state economy, which is New York.
Largest GDP per capita? That would correct for size of population, but then the less populated states have a bit of unfair advantage. In 2005 the District of Columbia is #1 by far, Delaware is a distant but comfortable #2, Alaska and Connecticut after that. Still fairly high at #7 is New York, and #13 is California, with a pretty small gap in between.
Fastest growing? Arizona, which went up 9.1% in 2005. Nevada is a close second.
I'm sure you could find a number of reports that rank states economically, according to various indicators and analysis. Again, it all depends why you want to find out who is #1.
Arguably, Colorado. And I'm not from there.
I say this because it has 10 counties in the 100 top richest counties in the United States, the most of any state.
