How much pollution is worth the price of progress?

Answer:
Actually, a case can be made that the richer the country, the less pollution will occur. On the one hand, as a country's economy grows, there is more pollution simply because there is more factories, more cars, and more sewage. On the other hand, people with higher incomes begin to demand a clean and healthy place to live. After you are satisfied with the basic necessities of live, you begin to worry about unhealthy air and water that can kill you and your children. Thus cities in the rich countries generally have cleaner air and water than in poor countries. The one exception to this rule is the emission of gasses that create the greenhouse effect and global warming.
