How Can Planned Obsolescence Be Stopped?

Designing products that wear out or become outmoded after limited use is all too common today. From things as simple as light-bulbs, to things as complex as computers and cars, planned obsolescence seems omnipresent. What would be the best and most efficient way to eliminate or dramatically reduce planned obsolescence from the economy?

Answer:
The consumer can stop it himself by not buying products that he or she knows wont last long. This is the beauty of capitalism, consumers have choices and firms have competition so there is always pressure for companies to make better and longer lasting products. If you are willing to shove over money for something that will be obsolete in a short period of time that is your choice, but many people are not willing to do that and want better products.
the only way planned obsolescence would stop is if people wernt greedy for money and stopped making them planned
The marketplace usually takes care of that. For instance, the lightbulb. Now they make a lightbulb that will last.
The other way is to not buy the product.

Before the Japanese, American cars were crap and they had a captive audience. Now, to compete, American cars are made a lot better.
Planned obsolescence is one of the great myths of popular economic thinking. Sure some products wear out or are replaced by better products, but to think that this is planned is naive. People like to think that there is some great international conspiracy by large companies that force people to buy new products which are better than old products just to increase sales. We should be grateful that better products come along that are better than old products. For example, the power of personal computers has increase many times over the last 20 years. Was this "planned obsolescence" or simply rapid technological progress? I thing it was the latter.
obsolescence, well it takes many years for that to happen. im still using a year 2000 computer. so its 7 years old. its still working fine. what really has been obsolescence has been little. i havent seem much become obsolete. ive heard alot of programmers become obsolete. well as far as i know, most programming language gets updated, so the foundation is still around. houses have been built by cement for hundreds of years, and its still being used today.
