How does the answer depend on the model of trade?

The U.S. labor movement, which mostly represents blue-collar workers rather than professionals and highly educated workers, has traditionally favored limits on imports from less-affluent countries. Is this a shortssighted policy or a rational one in view of the interests of union members?how does the answer depend on the model of trade?

Answer:
Shortsighted. Importing lowers prices, but then again it also can cut jobs for blue collar workers. It does, however, create jobs in other areas such as shipping and recieving rather than production. It depends on the model of trade because the close relationship between jobs lost and product cost can tip either way.
