What are the chances of voluntary simplicity becoming dominant?

Some people are trying to simplify. Others are trying to limit or eliminate the use of technology. And somebody said rural areas are trying to adopt that lifestyle and resist modern advances.

Answer:
if one wants to resort back to taking a dump in the river and using tree bark to clean ones butt well go ahead. i prefer the nice cushioned tiolet seat and something to flush my bodily waste away. I also like tiolet paper over tree bark. try using that, let see how long can "the simple life" last. plus no lights, not electricity, so no computer, have to manually grow those fruits and veges, plus waking up in the wee hours of morning to feed the cows and pigs just to have some food in the morning. lets see you try that kind of living for a year.
It depends on whether the economy makes it more desirable to simplify.
