What is the US current economic policy?
Answer:
Make as much money as possible at any costs!
Probably not the answer you were looking for but I am feeling a bit snarky to day after hearing about yet another Chinese product we import that is killing people. This on the heels of the tainted toothpaste and the tainted pet food. Thanks to China having #1 friend Status we are not forcing them to comply with our regulations and they will not turn over crucial information that would help us eliminate the deadly tires that they export. Of course when you ignore their human rights violations in favor of their cheap as s$%^ products, what do you expect!
Poor and getting poorer
I'll start with foreign economic policy and move to domestic.
*Foreign policy*
While the US has specific policies for specific scenarios (e.g. trade sanctions on certain nations), there is no clear policy that is applied generally. Infighting between the Democrats and Republicans, along with the influence of special interest groups, has made the US protectionist in some areas (like agriculture) and globalist in others (like retail). We trade with some anti-US totalitarian dictatorships (like Venezuela), and we impose sanctions on others (like Cuba).
*Domestic policy*
Here, there is also no clear direction. The US is neither completely capitalist nor completely socialist, although it is far more capitalist than socialist. The lack of unilateralism here is also due to political infighting. The right to property and to own a business, widespread entrepreneurship, and low corruption in the way government deals with business (as compared with other nations) make the US a capitalist nation. Social programs such as Social Security, welfare, and the few others that exist, contribute far less to our GDP than private businesses.
RSP ( Rape, sack and pillage. Toss in a little torture for jollies.) (Look closely on the Republican GOP buttons. You'll see "RSP" there.)
Not sure.
But of you find out...please call the White House immediately. A Nobel Laurite in Economics from MIT said of the Bush Economic plan when asked if he could put his observation of the Bush budget into one sentence said,
"If you already have one yacht...you will be able to get another one"!
That about sums up our designed by Republicans economic policy!
We will see just how indomitable our country actually is if we can survive these last 8 years of Republicanism, the Party of God. I would say…God help us! But the Repubs claim that god works for them.
