80/90 million barrels of oil consumed per day?
Its is said that 1 trillion barrels have been burned so far by the world and about 3 trillion of recoverable oil left. Now at best case senario, 80 million barrels consumption per day equates to approx 12500 days which is approx 34 years. Now I know that consumption is CURRENTLY 80/90 million barrels per day, but still the figures do not add up since we have been using oil at an increasing rate for the last 150 years. If DYergin picks this question up, I would be hounered to receive an answer from you, (read your book...brill !) Many Thx to those that answer this all the same

Answer:
It is my earnest hope that the free market will survive the oppressiveness of a socialistic government and can figure out a way to consume every drop of oil reserves that exist in the world as known today.
During the time period that we deplete the entire oil reserves of the world, if the free market is allowed to operate freely, then a dozen or more "replacements" for the used up oil will have been "discovered" and placed into the free market for use by all.
I think that if the "all wise and all powerful" government would just back off and let the free market work that the advancements of society would be staggering.
I believe that most of that 3trillion barrels of 'recoverable oil' is actually from unconventional sources like tar sands and shale. Many people studying this issue think Yergin is overly optimistic in a number of areas.
