Healthcare in Mexico?

My boyfriend and I were just arguing about this subject. He tells me that, in Mexico, the people have full coverage. I reply that, if in like Canada, in order to pay for that cost, taxes are raised. (Are taxes in these 2 countries, then, A LOT higher than in the U.S.?) Also, if the same is true for Mexico as in Canada, the people are to see only the one doctor they are told to see. Is this true in Mexico as well?
Also, as a caucasian American, and with the help of my parents :P, I have believed in negative stereotypes of Mexico for my whole life. (Although, I'm getting better after dating my boyfriend from Mexico.) However, I've always seen Mexico as a very poor country, and that effects every aspect of people's lives from healthcare to schooling. He tells me that I'm wrong; Mexico has a good economy but the wealth stays with only about 10 percent of the population. (...yeah.)
Can you guys help me win this argument or just set my ideas of Mexico straight if they are wrong?

You are wright he is wrong, what kind of boyfriend is he? Doesn't he know not to argue with a woman. He is not going to win. Don't worry he will learn within time, he will learn.
Wealth is in the N. because of the Tourism.
Mexico is poor.. and doesn't have a stable currency, millions of illegals brave sneaking into our country because they will starve in Mexico. Mexico has a very corrupt government, that's why the wealth is all in the top 10%.
Why do you think so many people want to move here?
If Mexico is so great why are people still risking their lives?
Why is no one going back to Mexico.. instead they are protesting here.
