Answer:
You deleted a major part from your question.

Is ILLEGAL immigration .

From a governmental perspective it is bad for the economy. The cost for health and welfare services is astronomical - and continues to rise as new babies are poured into an already heavily taxed nation.

From the perspective of business, it is good for the economy. There are many jobs that need done that too many legal Americans stick their noses up at, but illegals will do - and at a low wage. Business thinks its getting a good deal, with the low wages, but the government needs to take more of the businesses (and our) taxes in order to try to meet the needs. Since the money for the illegals is coming out of the same tax pot as legal Americans, many of our own citizens are having to do without basic health services (particularly mental health -(think Biloxi and New Orleans) while hospitals and clinics are clogged wth illegal immigrants. The poor don't generally go to the "doctor" when they're ill; they go to the hospital emergency room, tying up the staff who should be dealing in critical trauma services, with those who have a cold or a sore foot.

From the perspective of the ILLEGAL immigrant, it's a heck of a deal. One or two exciting nights crawling to the border, and a lifetime of medical care and purported "rights" as Americans.

NOTICE: There is nothing said in the above that in any way is opposed to LEGAL immigration; nor is there any racial preference or distinction.
If you go into a high-ranking university or commercial research lab, you will see that many of the scientists are foreign-born.
B/c not enough americans choose to get advanced degrees.

If you go into a restaurant, you will see that a mexican is filling your water glass, and another is doing the dishes in the back.
B/c minimum wage keeps american workers out of these jobs.
I personally have seen prices of consumer goods like gas and groceries, rent and automobiles go up sharply since the overpopulation due to illegal immigration. One local city had 30,000 people inside its limits brfore the immigration boom of the Nineties. ( 70,000 immigrants in the city limits alone) The same city? I can no longer afford to live there, even if I could find anyplace to rent.
Legal immigration good for the U.S. economy. Illegal immigration is bad for the U.S. economy
In general it would be good. However, our problem is that we pay too many Americans to not work. There is not a shortage of people here to do the work, just a shortage of people willing to work. We make it far too easy to not work.

The result is we have foreign workers coming in to take jobs that should be being done by people drawing government assistance.

Then we also have so many socialist programs that the foreigners can take advantage of, that many come here to get those freebies.

I'd end the free ride, then let anyone that's not a criminal and willing to support themselves come on in.
It's good, for one reason only, taxes. Right now illegals aren't paying taxes, they can't. Making them legal means they'll have to.

They already do the work, and get the income, all that's left is to pay taxes.
good, our economy would crash if it were not for immigrants, despite what republicans and the kkk would say
Immigration is good for a low population density economy with high growth potential. This is true of the US economy. For sustained economic growth, the US economy requires continuous supply of high quality, high skilled, scientific, technological and managerial manpower. The best way of ensuring best talent availability is to keep the competition in the market for talents high so that the domestic supplt of such talents competes with the internationally available high quality talents.. The current US policy in this regard is OK except that the number of job visas and green card visas given to some of the large population Asian countries is very limited and needs to be substantially raised. This will keep compensation rates going to hogh to make US competitiveness in the international market going down and outsourcing taking place in a large way. Had the US not kept the number of visa approvals for IT personnel low, the outsourcing might not have taken place.
The second part of US immigration is related to unskilled/ semi-skilled manual jobs largely in services sector. Illegal migrants are causing a mockery of things and hurting US interest. It would be better to set up in specific mid-east underdeveloped ares/ regions and coastal areas, special economic zones wth cheap housing facility where immigrant labor can work with work permits at minimum wages much below the official minimum wages so that Mexican/ Chinese/ Indian sub-continent/ African workers can immigrate with job visas to produce the same goods that US currently imports from the above-mentioned countries. At the same time, US citizens should be mentally attinued to work outside the country if they are not adequately competitive in the country. You cannot eat it and have it too.
