What is a legitimate reason for judging an economic system?

This is one my questions for my homework. Serious answers only please. Example to the question is: upward, mobility, fairness, and equality, ability to accumulate wealth etc.

Answer:
Reasons for judging:
1. Success of the system
2. Ethics of the system
I can think of two:

1. It maximizes efficiency (i.e., it allows the country or region to get the most productive use out of what it has); and

2. It maximizes total surplus (the sum of consumer and producer surplus).
