Is there such a thing as a capitalist ideology?
Just interested to hear what everyones view point is on this.
Answer:
Yes: you would describe neo-libsralism as a caitalist ideology (ie one based on captialism). So anything that opposes the pursuit of profit is seen as a "barrier" that should be removed; an over-riding belief that if a few people get rich, the wealth 'trickles down' to the rest of the population, and everybody becomes better off; and so on.
In theory it exists, in reality it is every man for themselves and blow you Jack. What mines mine and mines my own..my wealth is not going to trickle anywhere. That is my theory about how the rich and the even richer think these days.
More akin to a psychosis, this capitalist ideology. I'd say sociopathic in it's demonstrative behavior and myopic concern over money.
Of course, "ideology" just means a set of beliefs that guide your action. There are people who believe capitalism is good thing and who engage in free market activity, hence capitalist ideology.
I totally agree with Bob, neo-liberalism sounds a bit more humane, but in fact favours only the educated, the rich and the business minded. Creates huge inequalities and ghetoes.
