How can we solve homelessness in California?
Answer:
Over 50% of the homeless population suffer from schizophrenia or some other mental defect. For this portion of the homeless population medication might help them function in society.
The rest of the homeless population has a lack of motivation, training, or they may not want to assimilate into society.
The short answer is that fixing the problem is a difficult one. First identifying the help that certain homeless people need, whether it be medication or training. Then the follow up of making sure the process is working.
Homelessness will never be iradicated but if we focused on our problems here in the US instead of trying to fix the world problems we could diminish the numbers.
Round them up and send them to Florida.
give them jobs..wether they have a home or not shouldnt matter.if they keep clean would help...
WE can't solve THEIR lack of motivation.

There is no solution, there will always be homeless.
Your temperate climate does add to your problem. So pray that global warming floods your state and makes em move to the sandy beaches of Nevada & Arizona?
Actually, more mental health care for the poor, more drug addiction treatment for the poor, and more employment opportunities for the poor is the REAL solution.
Personally, if I had a choice in where to live Cali would be the last option. I'd stay far away from them soft-skulled Cali cops, you guys should give them rubber guns not real ones.
This may sound far fetched but the only thing that comes to my mind is for the lawmakers to make it illegal to be homeless. Wait! Before you stone me, listen! But in doing this they have to set up work programs for them where they have first dibs on jobs and if they are not capable of working, as so many of them are not, then they should be given the option of being put into proper care facilities to meet there needs, such as rehab if they are alcoholics, mental health institutions if they are mentally ill, etc. It's worth a try. But will the lawmakers deem them worth saving from their poverty? Or would they choose to put the money toward more important things like making wars with other countries.
Fix the illegal immigration problems out there and you might be able to see a change...
The Homeless issue is not as simple as merely providing them shelter. We need to classify the reason for them being homeless and address the factors we can. For instance Homeless individuals are generally homeless for these reasons:
Mental Illness
Loss of job with no support network
Alcohol and drug addiction
Choice
For those with mental illness we should attempt to get them the treatment they require and mainstream them into society. For those unlucky individuals who are out of work and have no place to turn we should attempt to arrange temporary housing and help them find employment. As for those with addiction the sad truth is we can not help them until they wish to help themselves. Finally for the small minority who choose to be homeless for one reason or another again there is nothing we can do for them until they choose to change.
What goes around comes around!

Most of the permanent American homeless probably are receiving some type of pension, but it's not enough to pay for decent housing.
