Economics.. Can you please explain this statement?
thanks
Answer:
It's referring to opportunity costs in an economy. The "true" cost for giving up an opportunity. For a college student it's not just the cost of tuition, books and fees but the work that a student don't put into the economy. That time and economic benefits is lost while the student is in school even though the student will benefit the economy better in the long run.
You have to get it
The free lunch is paid by somebody else. Its free to the person eating it but not to the taxpayers.
You don't get something for nothing...
It means that it is free if you can make somebody go get it for you. Then, you have to give them some of the crumbs. If you are really good at it, the fewer crumbs you have to give. Also, the more people you have getting you lunches, over time, the less crumbs you have to give. Then you can have people fighting each other over the crumbs.
But you still have to give the crumbs though.
It means somebody had to pay for your food & somebody had to prepare your food, to keep you alive. What are you going to give them back in return?
No lunch is free, because in eating the lunch you are incurring an opportunity cost. When you decide to do something you are choosing not to so something else. This is the opportunity cost of that activity. Even if you didn't pay in cash for your lunch you paid in the time you gave up that you could have used in something else.
Nothing is free, if someone offers you something for free they always want something in return>
