How are the prices of gas and the increase of food prices affecting you?

We are having to buy a new car that gets better gas milage and change our shopping list because it was just becoming unaffordable. How are you being affected?

Answer:
A LOT!

Stuff we used to buy without a second thought, now we just put on a wish list for "maybe, someday".

We put off two driving trips for vacation already, and stopped planning any other vacations for this year. We used to ride motorcycles every weekend. They've been collecting dust in the garage, and we just ride them for about 20 miles every 4 weeks. And we're thinking of selling mine.

I do a lot more cooking instead of going out. We were going to pick up some ribs last week but instead decided to save our $30 and I'm making some homemade tonight instead. I'll make chicken filets that were on sale last us for 3 days, making fajitas or other creative meals with them.

We cancelled our premium cable channels. We already cancelled our cell phone plans last year and just do a pay-as-you-go now (and try not to use it).

Most major expenditures originally planned have been put on indefinite hold.

I can't wait until Bush is out of office. On the other hand, one of the first things he wanted to do in 2000 was open up Anwar for oil and allow new refineries to be built, both of which Congress rejected. Makes you wonder how much better off we'd be, since that huge amount of domestic oil would be coming into the market about now. So it's not entirely his fault.

Still, it's not like he aggressively pursued anything else since.
i'm hungry and can't drive anywhere
I quit my job it was costing me more to work then stay home
I am having to cut out any unecessary trips to the mall and such. I am also planning my families meals according to what is on sale every week at the local grocery stores. If they have certain staple items or meats on sale, I buy in bulk and save or freeze the meat for later meals. Every penny saved counts!!
