Yes, it's most likely due to the pet food recall. Before the pet food recall, there have been much less inspection of foreign imports. I have also read in the LA times that most of the goods (roughly 90 percent) are imported without inspection, and due to the pet food recall, the US is starting to become more alert.
chinese practically make all our goods and one day they will **** it all up on purpose to screw us over so we have nothing.

its called BIO TERRORISM. come on, how does stuff like that simply 'accidently" get in our toothpaste as well, we were told what about four five weeks ago, not to use toothpaste that was "made in china" because traces were being found. Toothpaste to dog food.. yeah, no mistake there. !
No special reason, just the usual shoddy, second rate, poorly made crap that comes from China. What can people expect when they buy rubbish from a country that has no morals, no ethics, no quality control and is focussed solely on getting the highest dollar for the lowest quality and production cost?
China is not nearly as developed as the US in terms of regulations, which means that Chinese companies do not have to live up to the same quality requirements that US companies have to.
It's similar to how things were in the US before those regulations were enacted. If you're interested, Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" exposed many of the horrific practices in the US meat packing industry before safety and quality regulations were instituted.
