What is the economic impact of civil unions between gays/lesbians?

Aside from any moral opinons. What are the economic impacts that civil unions can cause? Would they cause as big of a problem as the attention they recieve makes it seem?

Answer:
I can't readily think of any negative economic impact. Civil unions would be encouraging homosexual couples to buy and invest in things that require a certain level of legal commitment - houses, land, maybe private school for the kiddies. "Letting" people get married seems like a good idea all around to me economically speaking but marriage is really a religious / spiritual thing for most people I think, hence all the hooplah
It would be the same as the benefits for married couples, insurance, tax breaks and the ability to make medical decisions for the other. Also would be able to collect Socail Security and Life insurance if one dies before the other.
