Does prohibition of drugs produce a positive of negative affect?
I am currently doing a dissertation on the above topic and was curious to see how other people viewed this.
I appriciate that it is can lead to some very opinionated views but from reading some of the answers on here there are a lot of intelligent and well informed people, if thats you please let me know what you think.
Also, if you could point me in the direction of sources of good information on this subject that would also be great!!
I look forward to your answers.
Answer:
Prohibition of anything will create a black market, as long as demand for that good exists.
both its positive because there are a lot of drug houses and you can got to area party stores or certain street corners to get what you need. It's only negative when there is a drought and you can't find what you need or if you get pulled over by the police it won't be nothing nice.
The prohibition also allows for 'unsafe' drugs. I don't mean that they would be perfectly safe if they were legal and controlled. However, as they are, drugs are manufactured by amateur and untrained chemists that may or may not know what they are doing.
Also, I wonder if substances were legal and controlled, if people who want to use them would have access to finding out if the substance would be particularly harmful for themselves. For instance, my doctor told me that research has shown that a gene or gene abnormality is linked to marijuana causing hallucinations both during use and after. But I suspect it will be some time until such resources are available to more people.
I would say it is great for the economy to prohibit drugs. Look at America compared to everywhere else where drugs are permitted, besides the drug market itself, drugs hurt all other sectors of the economy besides funeral homes.
