What do you think of "Free to Choose" by Nobel Prizewinner in Economics Milton Friedman?
Answer:
I think an even better book by him is Capitalism and Freedom published in 1962. I read it 40 years ago and thought his ideas were great. However, at the time, most economic thinking did not support his ideas and advocated a much larger role for the government. I was particular impressed with idea of using vouchers to pay for education so that people could choose which private school that they wanted to attend. Though the government would pay for education, the government would not actually own or run the schools. At the time, no one took this idea seriously. Now we see many experiments using vouchers to improve the school system. Many of the ideas in Capitalism and Freedom were elaborated on in Free to Choose published in 1980.
I just finished reading "Basic Economics", by Thomas Sowell. "Free to Choose" is my next book. I understand it isn't very long, and I am a believer in Milton Friedman's economics.
